Justify Paddock

Exciting First-Crop Scat Daddy Sons Represented at OBS June

Undefeated Triple Crown winner Justify and Grade I winner Mendelssohn are two of the most exciting young Scat Daddy sons in the world and this week they combine for nine juveniles at the OBS June 2-Year-Olds Sale.

Justify’s colt out of Together breezed a quick :10.0 for Wavertree Stables at last week’s Under Tack sale less than two weeks after fellow 2-year-old Tough Talk won the Group III Marble Hill Stakes. Tough Talk is out of a full sister to Hip 1079’s Grade I-winning dam Together, who has already produced two stakes performers. Together is also a three-quarter sister to the Group I-winning Jan Vermeer.

Bred by Orpendale, Chelston, and Wynatt, this is his second time through the ring this year after selling at the OBS April Sale.

Justify’s Hip 794 consigned by Harris Training Center is a half-brother to the Grade I-winning Magnum Moon and three other winners from five to race out of Dazzling Song. Dazzling Song is a daughter of Giant’s Causeway’s Grade III winner and stakes producer Win McCool, who is also a half-sister to the Grade I-winning Harmony Lodge. This colt was bred by Bass Stables and has yet to go through a sales ring.

Electing to gallop during the Under Tack Show, Hip 1036 is a three-quarter brother to stakes-winning Conquest Boogaloo from the de Meric Sales consignment. The colt’s dam is the stakes-placed Jules Best, who is out of a stakes winning half-sister to Grade II winner She Says It Best and stakes winner Say Dance. Bred by Mike Abraham, he’s going through the ring for the second time after selling as a yearling.

A Grade I winner on turf and record setter on dirt, Mendelssohn’s six through the ring kick off with Hip 60 bred by Ernest Frohboes.

Consigned by Gene Recio, the filly named Calming Sea is a half-sister to two winners from two to race out of Love Ava Lova. That mare is a half-sister to the multiple stakes winner Global Power and stakes winner Pegasusbystorm. Even more eye-catching is Calming Sea’s third dam, the Canadana Horse of the Year Alywow, whose foals include multiple Grade II winner Century City and Calming Sea’s own stakes winning dam Hidden Cat.

Hip 262 from Craig Wheeler’s consignment is the first foal out of the four-time stakes winner R Angel Katelyn. That mare is also a half-sister to the dam of stakes winner My Sassenach. Each of the colt’s first four dams are stakes winners or produced stakes winners with his fourth dam the dam of Grade I winning Very Subtle. This colt was bred by his consignor in Florida.

Hip 454, a filly named Cozzolani consigned by Top Line Sales has a page that shows much promise. A filly bred by Forgotten Land Investment Inc, Grantley Acres, River Oak Farm, she is the first foal for the multiple winner Sweet Like Char.

Sweet Like Char not only is a half-sister to two stakes performers and out of a multiple graded stakes winner, but multiple sisters have produced stakes performers. Those two sisters combine for four stakes performers with one also producing a stakes producer with the group led by the stakes winner and Grade II-placed Real Talk. Scat Daddy’s Group III-placed Take Me With You is also under one of those siblings.

Producing talent runs strong in Cozzolani’s family with her granddam also a full sister to the Grade I-winning Wildcat Heir.

Action at the OBS June Sale kicks off on June 7 and runs through the 9th with each session starting at 10:00 a.m ET in Ocala.
