G W's Girl Kicks Off Season with Mockingbird Victory

G W's Girl (3f Munnings x Essence of Audre, by Exchange Rate) won her first stakes in her third career start on Saturday with a victory in the Mockingbird Stakes at Oaklawn.

The Greg Compton trainee started her year by going six furlongs in her second stakes attempt. Relaxing behind the leader, she was patiently handled by jockey Francisco Arrieta before hitting the turn.

Swung four wide, she lost a bit of the ground she had made up, but quickly regained it and sped after the leader. That one gave up her 3 ½ length lead late with G W's Girl winning by a length in the end.

A $130,000 2-year-old purchase by racing owner Mag Racing last year, G W's Girl was bred by Larry Alan Wynn out of Essence of Audre.

That winning mare is the dam of four winners from four named foals and is a half-sister to Canadian champion Essence Hit Man and Grade III-placed Eight Town. Each of G W's Girl’s first five dams have also now produced stakes performers with her victory.

This is the fifth stakes winner and 10th stakes performer from Munnings’ 2022 crop with four of those stakes winners coming as juveniles.
