Jabari Gives Cupid New Year’s Eve Victory
Just hours before Cupid’s first crop turns three, Jabari (2c Cupid x Explosive Vacation, by Harlan’s Holiday) became his sire’s 23rd winner with a win at Camarero.
The seven furlong dirt race saw Jabari break well and race in company for the lead. The colt was kept in hand by his jockey and allowed the other horse to have a short lead early on. As the field raced around the turn, Jabari put his head in front and comfortably raced away from the rest of the field.
In the stretch, Jabari was a clear victor, winning by 4 ½ lengths for owner JAL Racing and trainer Jose D. Velez.
Bred in Kentucky by James Purvis DVM, Jabari is the first foal out of Explosive Vacation. That mare is a half-sister to stakes winner and Grade II-placed Cavalia and out of stakes-placed Tina Dynamite. This is also the family of dual Grade I winner Plum Pretty.
Standing for just $5,000 in 2022, Cupid is looking like one of the strongest value sires in Kentucky with his first crop including three stakes performers and two stakes winners led by Grade III winner God of Love.
