Munnings walking away

Jaxon Traveler Adds Sixth Stakes Victory to Resume

Coming back on just two weeks rest after his seasonal debut, Jaxon Traveler (6h Munnings x Listen Boy, by After Market) returned to his winning ways Sunday with a victory in the Bill Thomas Memorial Stakes at Sunland Park.

The West Point Thoroughbreds representative was happily first out of the gate in the 6 ½ furlong race and controlled it as he saw fit from there. Joel Rosario kept him a few paths off the rail early on and didn’t bother him until they turned into the stretch.

At that point, Jaxon Traveler was encouraged to kick into top gear and that was exactly what he did, pulling away to win by three lengths with the third placed runner over six lengths behind.

It was the eighth career victory for the Grade III winner trained by Steve Asmussen, who has six victories at the stakes level and 10 other stakes placings for $741,849 in earnings.

Hailing from Dr. and Mrs. A. Leonard Pineau’s breeding program, Jaxon Traveler is one of five winners out of the stakes placed Listen Boy.

Listen Boy is a half-sister to stakes winner Monzon and the stakes placed Aleutian Harbour.

A top sire year in and year out, Munnings has seen each of his crops produce at least one stakes winner, with his 73 stakes winners led by five Grade I winners.
