Kaylasaurus (Munnings) wins the Willa On The Move Stakes at Laurel Park

Kaylasaurus Newest Stakes Winner for Munnings

It was a 19th 2021 stakes winner for Munnings on Sunday when Kaylasaurus (5m Munnings x Five Diamonds, by Flatter) won the Listed Willa On The Move Stakes at Laurel Park.

Kaylasaurus took up back marker duties out of the gate in the six furlong race and was happy to give the field a big advantage when five lengths behind any other runner for the first half of the race. She showed that she had more than enough talent to make up for that slow early run when closing determinedly down the stretch.

She grabbed the lead inside the final sixteenth and had more than enough momentum to extend her lead all the way to the line and win by 2 ¼ lengths.

“The race was good for my filly,” winning jockey Horacio Karamanos said. “The speed was going and she’s got a beautiful finish, so I just sit in behind. They were going fast and I tried to be close but not rush her and when she started to move in the middle of the turn, I go little wide to look for the best spot and she give me a beautiful kick at the end. The last sixteenth of a mile, she was just galloping.”

The Timothy Kreiser trainee was winning her fifth race of 2021 with eight top three finishes in 12 starts. Overall, the Munnings mare has won seven of her 19 starts with five other top three finishes and now races in the Bush Racing Stable and Liberty House Racing silks.

Bred in Pennsylvania by Arrowwood Farm, Kaylasaurus is one of five winners out of the stakes winning Five Diamonds. That mare is a half sister to stakes-placed Smart Tori with their dam a half-sister to the grandam of Brazilian champion Requebra and Group I winner In Essence.

Kaylasaurus has a 2-year-old full brother named Nimitz Class and their dam visited Lookin At Lucky this year.

The on-fire Munnings has had a career best year and is one of the top stallions in North America in every category in 2021.
