Kentucky Downs Winner for Tiz The Law
Tiztastic (2c Tiz The Law x Keesha, by Tapit) scored his first win with a bang on Thursday in a Keeneland Downs Allowance.
Racing over 6 ½ furlongs on the turf, the Steve Asmussen trainee broke in midpack and was keen to run early before settled by jockey Jose Ortiz. Ortiz kept his mount a few lengths behind the leader with four horses in front of him before advancing in the far turn.
Tiztastic was stuck behind horses in the stretch but used long stretch run to the line to his advantage, racing up the rail as a few horses drifted out. Angled to the outside of Practical Joke’s Sexagenarian, he raced past that leader in the final sixteenth to win by 1¾ lengths.
Now the earner of $154,000 with one win in two starts, the colt owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds and the Coolmore partners was a $335,000 Keeneland September Yearling purchase last year.
Out of Keesha, Tiztastic is a half-brother to the stakes winning Interpolate and two other winners from three others to race out of the mare. Keesha is a half-sister to the Grade III winner and multiple Grade II-placed Shumoos and stakes winning Steady On.
Tiztastic’s dam is also a granddaughter of multiple Grade I winner Strategic Maneuver, who has two graded stakes winners herself and saw multiple daughters produce stakes winners as well.
Keesha had a Tiz The Law colt born last year, who is offered as Hip 1232 by Hunter Valley Farm at the upcoming Keeneland September Yearling Sale. The mare returned to Practical Joke for 2025.
Tiz The Law now has seven winners, putting him fourth among freshmen, including the stakes winning Out On Bail.
