Legal Empress On Top at Oaklawn For Tiz The Law
Legal Empress (2f Tiz the Law x Dothraki Queen, by Pure Prize) ended the year on a high note Sunday with a Maiden Special Weight victory.
A consistent top three finisher in her three starts before Sunday, Legal Empress made her final start of the year going 1 1/16 miles on the dirt at Oaklawn. The Tiz The Law filly spent the first five furlongs of the race pressing the leader to ensure an honest pace with neither willing to give in once Legal Empress fully engaged.
It was a battle to the finish as Legal Empress slowly started taking over command. It wasn’t until the shadow of the wire that Legal Empress had the advantage, pulling away to win by a neck.
The China Horse Club-bred is trained by Abel Ramirez-Rodriguez for Jerry Namy, who purchased her through Doug Arnold for $170,000 last year as a yearling.
Legal Empress is the second winner for Grade II winner and multiple Grade I placed Dothraki Queen. That mare is out of a half-sister to Grade I winner Blushing K.D., Canadian champion Ambitious Cat, Hong Kong Horse of the Year Electronic Unicorn, and stakes winner February Storm from five winners out of Lilac Garden.
Tiz The Law is the sire of 22 winners in 2024 with his five stakes winners, two graded stakes winners, and four graded stakes placers leading all North American freshman sires this year.
