Landeskog Returns a Winner for Munnings
Making his first start since second in the Grade II Gallant Bob last year, Landeskog (4g Munnings x Minewander, by Mineshaft) ran the fastest six furlongs of the Ellis Park meet with a victory on Saturday afternoon.
Going off as the heavy race favorite, Landeskog immediately went to the lead in the six furlong race and proved to be well in hand under Florent Geroux. Holding a little over a length on the field throughout the early stages, Landeskog had plenty left in the tank when it came down to the serious running.
It only took a little urging for Landeskog keep his easy lead in the stretch and stop the clock in 1:08.96 to win by 1¾ lengths for trainer Brad Cox and ERJ Racing, Madaket Stables, and Dave Kenney.
Bred by CFP Thoroughbreds, he is one of four winners from four runners out of his Grade III-placed dam Minewander. The gelding’s dam is also a half-sister to Grade III winner Wander Mom as one of 13 winners from 14 to race out of her own dam.
The gelding’s third dam is a half-sister to top racemare and broodmare Serena’s Song and top broodmare Serena’s Sister among others.
One of the top value sires in the world, Munnings consistently produces successful horses year after year as the sire of 40 stakes winners and 64 stakes horses.
