Lanfrankophile Continues Practical Joke’s Freshman Success
It was a second winner in less than 24 hours for Practical Joke when Lanfrankophile (2f Practical Joke x Mentally Unstable, by Good Reward) won on debut at Delaware Park.
The filly made her first start going 5 ½ furlongs on the dirt and quickly grabbed a spot on the rail. Entering a four-horse race for the lead, Lanfrankophile stuck her neck in front and worked her way to open about three-quarters of a length on the field.
She was pressured throughout the early stretch run but was able to pull away in the final furlong to win by 1 ¼ lengths for owner Joseph Besecker.
Trained by Hugh McMahon, Lanfrankophile was purchased by her racing owner as a 2-year-old last year after she’d also went through the ring as a short yearling.
The filly was bred by Royal Oak Farm and Ashford Stud and is out of a half-sister to stakes-placed Las Malvega and the dam of stakes winner Angle of Attack. Lanfrankophile’s five-time winning granddam is a full sister to multiple stakes winner Under The Rug, who also produced multiple stakes placed Waccamaw.
Finding stakes performers under three of her first four dams, Lanfrankophile also finds Grade I winner Broom Dance as her fourth dam with that mare producing successful sire End Sweep.
Practical Joke’s seven winners is the third best of any North American freshman with the group led by his impressive graded stakes winning son Wit.
