Lecce Baroque Impressive On Debut for Uncle Mo

Lecce Baroque’s (3f Uncle Mo x My Fast One, by Elusive Quality) debut was worth the wait for her connections with the filly dominating the field at Tokyo Racecourse on Saturday.

Breaking strongly in the seven furlong race on dirt, Lecce Baroque went straight for the lead and controlled the pace throughout. Jockey Christophe Lemaire looked confident as he entered the straight on the Kazuo Fujisawa-trainee and for good reason. She galloped along with her ears pricked as she continued to build her margin in the final few furlongs to win by open lengths without ever being asked to run.

Bred by MMM Stables and racing for Kazumi Yoshida, the filly was a $410,000 Keeneland September purchase by Carlo Vaccarezza before returning to the ring at OBS last year to fetch $525,000 from Katsumi Yoshida at the March 2-Year-Old Sale.

The second foal from My Fast One, she is one of two winners for the mare. My Fast One is a half-sister to Uncle Mo’s Listed winner No Mo Dough and 10-time winner and Listed placed Terrific Storm. My Fast One’s granddam is the dam of two-time Grade I winner Wekiva Springs and Listed winner Diamond Sunjet.

Out of an Elusive Quality mare, Lecce Baroque is bred on the same cross as Uncle Mo’s Grade I winner Go Mo and Grade III winner Lost Raven with seven winners from nine runners overall.
