McPeek Buys Mendelssohn Colt for $150,000

Kenny McPeek went to $150,000 to secure a Mendelssohn colt out of Overly Tempting during Monday’s session of the Fasig-Tipton October Yearlings Sale, the second highest price for a freshman sire.

Offered by Gainesway, the colt is a half-brother to the multiple stakes winner and graded stakes-placed A Lot and stakes-placed Chairman Crooks. Their dam Overly Temping was a stakes performer as well when placing in the Grade I Santa Monica. She is one of two stakes horses for her dam Contemptable, who also produced multiple stakes winner Tempting Date.

The colt bred by Liberty Road Stables comes from the family of Grade III winner Gloryzapper among the eight stakes winners listed under his third dam.

A regally-bred Grade I winning half-brother to champion sire Into Mischief and brilliant racehorse Beholder, Mendelssohn’s first yearlings are averaging $157,762, led by a $900,000 filly.
