Mendelian Leads Exciting Day for Mendelssohn

Mendelian (2f Mendelssohn x Katie Lane, by Quality Road) gave Mendelssohn a new winner on Monday when the filly won a Parx Maiden Special Weight on debut.

Racing over six furlongs on the dirt, Mendelian was the slowest out of the gate and raced near last early with just two horses beat. The filly steadily moved forward in the field to come on strong as the field entered the turn before clicking into another gear. At the top of the stretch, she had the lead and increased the margin with every step, winning by six lengths in the end for an impressive first showing.

Bred by Oak lodge Bloodstock, Mendelian is trained by Robert Reid, Jr. for LC Racing, Cash Is King, and Wellesley Stable.

Mendelian is one of three winners from three to race out of a half-sister to Grade II winner Tap Day. The mare is also a half-sister to the dam of Grade I winner Bell’s The One and Grade III winner King Cause.

Mendelian’s dam Katie Lane also foaled a Practical Joke filly this term.

It was a big Monday for Mendelssohn, whose daughter Scottish Symphony also placed second on debut in the Finest City Stakes at Presque Isle Downs to become the fifth stakes performer for her sire – putting him fourth on the freshman sire list by number of stakes performers from his first crop.
