Mendelssohn Filly Wins Woodbine Oaks
Mendelssohn’s Kin's Concerto (3f Mendelssohn x Kincardine, by Fusaichi Pegasus) made her stakes debut a winning one on Saturday with a determined victory in the Woodbine Oaks.
Making her start at this level in the 1 1/8-mile race on the synthetics, Kin's Concerto settled on the rail quickly out of the gate and tracked the leader from a few lengths behind. That was where she stayed until the field hit the turn, when she was angled out to pass a horse in front of her.
She was sent even wider into the stretch and got to the front just in time to win by a neck.
A homebred for Chiefswood Stables, the Josie Carroll-trained filly has never finished worse than third in her five career starts for nearly $300,000 in earnings.
Out of the Fusaichi Pegasus mare Kincardine, Kin's Concerto is a half-sister to three other winners and a granddaughter of Rose of Tara. A daughter of Group II winner Flame of Tara, there are 18 stakes performers under Rose of Tara’s branch of the family.
Leading all third crop sires in 2024 with 100 winners, Mendelssohn is also the sire of five stakes winners – fourth best of his generation - and 11 stakes performers, second only to Justify in 2024.
