Mendelssohn Juveniles In Demand at OBS Spring

The first day of the OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds In Training sale proved to be a successful one for Mendelssohn with two six-figure yearlings.

CSLR Racing Partners went to $385,000 for a filly out of Caroline Victoria offered by Off The Hook, the third most expensive filly of the session. Bred in Florida by J Stables and Gelfenstein Farm, the filly breezed last week in :9.3 – registering the sale bullet. By Lonhro, Caroline Victoria is the dam of two winners from two to race and is out of Grade III winner Mighty Caroline.

Mighty Caroline is a half-sister to American Pharoah’s Grade I winner American Theorem and stakes winners Cyclogenisis and Renee’s Queen.

Mendelssohn also had a $300,000 colt purchased by Ben McElroy as agent for K.S..I.

Offered by Julie Davies, the colt out of Blazen Betsy and bred by Robert Slack and Dan Walters was purchased by Toby Stables from Stoneriggs Farm for $120,000 at the Fasig-Tipton October yearling sale last year.

This is the first foal from the winning Speightstown mare Blazen Betsy, a daughter of stakes winner Let’s Go Cheyenne. That mare is one of three stakes performers out of Grade III winner Michigan Bluff with the mare also producing Turkish champion Hakeem.

Among Michigan Bluff’s non-stakes winners are the dams of Grade I winner There Goes Harvard and Killer Graces. Killer Graces is the dam of another Grade I winner in Japanese Grade I winner Killer Ability with Grade II winner Chocolate Ride also on the page.

This colt is bred on the same cross as Mendelssohn’s stakes placed Golden Nugget and three other winners from four to race. All four are out of Speightstown mares.

Grade I winner Mendelssohn has 12 juveniles from his second crop set to go through the ring over the next three sessions.
