Mendelssohn Looks to Strike With Nine at Fasig-Tipton New York

Sunday and Monday’s Fasig-Tipton New York-Bred Sale sees Mendelssohn send out nine from his first crop, with his first going through in the middle of the first session.

That first offering is a colt consigned by Summerfield as Hip 359. A half-brother to stakes winner Sing Dixie Sing, who produced stakes winner Quick Tempo, he is out of the Mineshaft mare Canaryinacage. That mare is a half-sister to Grade III winner Elusive Bluff and out of multiple graded stakes winner Megans Bluff.

Bred by Mina Equivest, the colt sees stakes winners produced by each of his four dams named on the page.

Consigned by breeder McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbred, Hip 411 is a granddaughter of dual Grade I-winner Missy’s Mirage and out of the stakes producing Flash Act. Flash Act has four winners from five to race, including the stakes winning Nine Route with Flash Act’s 3-year-old Saratoga Flash seeing updated earnings since the catalog was released.

Flash Act is also a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Apprehender, and to the third dam of Grade III-placed Her Tank Top. Missy’s Mirage is one of two Grade I winners for the filly’s third dam First Mirage. The other is Grade I winner Classy Mirage, who also produced Grade I winner Dublin among others.

A $110,000 weanling purchase, the Magnolia Mares and Pony Express Sales-bred Hip 425 is out of a three-quarter sister to two-time Horse of the Year Curlin. Consigned by Paramount Sales, the filly is the second foal out of Good Omen, who is also a half-sister to stakes-placed Philantropic. The family also includes stakes winner and producer Conquest Strate Up and multiple stakes winner Cactus Joe.

Offered by Vinery Sales, Hip 518 is a half-sister to Grade II winner Ancient Secret and Grade III-placed Jais’s Solitude. The filly’s three-time winning dam Privacy has three winners from five to race, including Lookin At Lucky’s own winner Seclude.

Bred by Lambholm and sold as a weanling last November, the filly’s dam is a half-sister to stakes winner Admonition and multiple graded stakes placed Smart N Pretty. Her third dam is Grade II winner and Grade I-placed Funistrada, who produced three stakes performers herself in addition to seeing three of her daughters produce stakes winners.

The first foal out of multiple stakes-placed Rumble Doll is Hip 542, a filly bred by Spruce Lane, Hidden Brook, Bartolotta, Becker, Conley, Copper Beech et al. Offered by McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds, the filly’s dam is one of two stakes performers for multiple stakes-placed Little Buttercup, whose stakes-placed Mr. Gary D. has updated earnings since the catalog was released. On the filly’s page alone there are 16 stakes winners and 30 stakes performers named.

Represented by two hips on Day 1 and six on Day 2, Mendelssohn’s first through the ring overall is Hip 359 during the 7p.m. session on Sunday and his first during the noon session on Monday is Hip 406. His final through the ring is Hip 593, a filly from the family of champion Champagne Room.
