Mendelssohn Represented by Five at Fasig-Tipton
Grade I Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf winner Mendelssohn sees his first five weanlings go through the ring on Sunday at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale, starting with Hip 4.
Consigned by Fort Christopher’s Thoroughbreds, the New York-bred Hip 4 bred by Christopher Shelli is a half-brother to three winners from three to race out of the Ghostzapper mare Fear This. That mare is out of Grade III winner and Grade II-placed Susan’s Angel, who herself is a half-sister to two other stakes horses. This colt is bred on the extremely successful Scat Daddy x Ghostzapper cross that produced Triple Crown winner Justify and two other stakes horses from six winners and seven runners.
From the family of two-time Horse of the Year Curlin comes Hip 9, a filly bred by Magnolia Mares LLC and Pony Express Sales, Inc in New York. The second foal out of a Smart Strike half-sister to stakes-placed Philantropic, the filly’s third dam is Sherriff’s Deputy. The mare produced both Curlin and the dam of stakes winner Conquest Strate Up with stakes winner Cactus Joe also under Sherriff’s Deputy’s name.
Warrendale Sales sends out Hip 11 for Thoroughbred By Design LLC, a half-sister to two winners out of Giant’s Causeway’s Great Look. That mare is a full sister to multiple graded stakes winner and young sire Winning Cause and a half-sister to Scat Daddy’s stakes placed Ventry Bay – making that horse closely related to this filly. Her third dam has even more blacktype under her name as the dam of Grade III winner Society Hoestess and her daughters and granddaughters producing Grade I winners Emerging Talent and Summer Love. This is also the family of Refuse to Bend and Rich Tapestry among others.
Another bred on the same Ghostzapper cross that produced Justify, Hip 91 from Warrendale Sales is the first foal out of a daughter of Grade I-placed Big Tiz. A New York-bred from the Windylea Farm New York, LLC program, the filly’s page also includes Grade I winner Collusion Illusion, Grade II winner Bahamian Squall with her stakes winning third dam also the dam of three stakes horses including two stakes winners.
The final offering for Mendelssohn is Wynnstay Sales-offered Hip 113. Bred by H. Allen Poindexter in Iowa, the filly is the second foal out of multiple stakes winner and Grade III-placed American Sugar, whose first foal is a winner. American Sugar herself is a half-sister to five other winners, including stakes-placed Love to Run with their dam a half-sister to four stakes horses. A strong producing family, the colt’s granddam is also a half-sister to the dams of dual-Grade I winner Sassy Image and stakes winners Extensive and La Wildcat.
The Fasig-Tipton November Sale kicks off at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday, November 8.
