A $400,000 Mendelssohn colt was the most expensive by a freshman and third most expensive overall during Tuesday’s session of the Fasig-Tipton October Yearlings Sale when purchased by Blackridge Stables.
Offered by Taylor Made Sales Agency, the colt bred by Pedro and P.J. Gonzales is a half-brother to five winners from five to race, led by this year’s Grade I Arkansas Derby winner Super Stock and the Grade I-placed Boujie Girl.
Their dam is a half-sister to Puerto Rican champion Gabbywitha G, stakes-placed Bea D J and stakes-placed Be Silver. Be Silver is also the dam of Grade I winner Heir Kitty with Bea D J producing stakes-placed Superstar Bea.
Mendelssohn continues to be popular with breeders and buyers with 94 yearlings sold this year – led by $900,000 and $750,000 fillies and a $510,000 colt.
