Miss Alacrity Romps Again in Colleen Stakes

A 10 length maiden winner on dirt last out, Miss Alacrity (2f Munnings x Just Jenda, by Menifee) showed she has multi-surface talent with a turf victory in the Colleen Stakes at Monmouth Park on Sunday.

The filly broke like a shot from the gate in the five furlong race and immediately entered a duel for the lead. Only one horse was able to stick with her and even that one gave in by the time they reached the stretch.

Paco Lopez let the filly coast home in the final furlong to give her a deceivingly small margin of 2 ¾ lengths at the line but it was clear Miss Alacrity could have won by any margin she wanted.

“This is a very nice filly,” said Lopez. “She has a lot of talent. Wesley Ward had her ready. She was a little green but she is very talented. I can feel it. I was aggressive early because that’s how she likes to run but I did not have to make the lead. I stayed close to Kodama because I know that filly has a lot of speed and I wanted to make sure she didn’t get too far away. But this filly was too good. She can hook horses and still have plenty left. You can tell she’s a good one.”

Trained by Wesley Ward for CJ Thoroughbreds, Miss Alacrity was a $150,000 weanling purchase at the Keeneland November Sale.

Milfer Farm bought her Grade II winning dam Just Jenda while carrying Miss Alacrity. That mare is also the dam of stakes winner Jenda’s Agenda among four winners from four runners. In addition to her Grade II, Just Jenda also won two other graded stakes.

A fifth generation stakes performer, Miss Alacrity also hails from the family of Uncle Mo’s champion and Grade I Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist and Grade I winner Sahara Sky among 13 stakes winners and 24 stakes performers.

It’s been another top weekend for Munnings, who had an international stakes double in a 15 minute span when Miss Alacrity’s victory was followed by Munnyfor Ro winning the Woodbine Oaks.
