Mufasa Practical Joke Wins Gr 3 Mr Prospector

Mufasa Proves Best in G3 Mr. Prospector

Grade III winner Mufasa (5h Practical Joke x Miscanti, by Scat Daddy) added another stakes victory to his record on Saturday with a win in the Grade III Mr. Prospector Stakes.

The seven furlong dirt race saw Mufasa break well and race straight to the lead before being overcome by one other horse. Mufasa was okay with that challenger taking up pacemaking duties as he kept the pressure on throughout the backstretch and around the turn.

Mufasa moved up to challenge the leader as they exited the turn and was quickly away from the field. Grade I Breeders’ Cup Classic winner White Abarrio charged late at the Practical Joke son, but couldn’t get up in time with Mufasa winning by 1 1/4 lengths at the line.

Trained by Ignacio Correas for Carlos Saavedra and Stud Vendaval, Mufasa was bred by Haras Pasa Nevado out of Scat Daddy daughter Miscanti. This was his second stakes victory in his last three starts with a win in the Grade III Vosburgh in September as well.

Miscanti has proven to be a successful broodmare with all four of her runners winning at least one race and two earning blacktype. A five-time winner herself, Miscanti is one of seven winners out of her own dam, whose runners include Grade II placed Maya Man.

Mufasa’s family also includes Grade I winner Mi Quimera, My Halo, Mi Surena, Smart Wells, and Expressive Smart.
