Munnings’ A Thousand Reasons Wins Orleans Stakes

A Thousand Reasons (4f Munnings x Overboard, by Stormy Atlantic) started 2020 the same way she ended 2019 – with a win.

The Munnings daughter registered her first stakes victory on Friday night at Delta Downs in the Orleans Stakes when leading all the way as the favorite in the five furlong dirt race. Breaking first and taking the lead out of the gate, A Thousand Reasons had a length lead nearly from the break and built the margin from there.

By the time the field entered the stretch, the filly had pulled away to a four length lead and there was no chance her rivals would catch her. The filly won the stakes by 4 ¾ lengths for trainer Thomas Amoss and looked like she still had plenty in the tank as she crossed the line.

Owned by Maggi Moss, A Thousand Reasons has won four of her six starts with a third in her debut to register more than $110,000 in earnings. She was purchased by Moss at the Keeneland September Sale for $80,000 from the Penn Sales consignment with Alex and Kendra Penn breeding the filly.

A Thousand Reasons is bred on a similar Munnings x Storm Cat cross to four stakes horses, including Munnings’ Grade III winners Om and Catalina Red.

A leading sire of 2-year-olds in 2019, Munnings is the sire of 36 stakes winners and 58 stakes horses overall, led by three-time Grade I winner I’m A Chatterbox.
