Munnings’ Chief Cicatriz Wins Fourth Consecutive Stakes
Munning’s talented Chief Cicatriz (7g Munnings x Super Buggy, by Grand Slam) added a fourth consecutive stakes victory to his resume on Saturday when winning the Ft. Bliss Stakes at Sunland Park.
Breaking alertly, Chief Cicatriz took the lead right off the bat in the six furlong race as the favorite. The gelding briefly battled with fellow Munnings runner Major Munnings around the turn and as that foe faded, he had to fend off a few other rivals. While he was pushed throughout the stretch, the gutsy gelding held on to win by a neck under Francisco Arrieta and record his 11th career stakes victory.
A Grade III winner at Churchill Downs, Shawn Davis-trained Chief Cicatriz has 10 stakes victories in all for breeder-owner Roy Gene Evans.
Chief Cicatriz is the second stakes winner on the day for Munnings, whose Phat Man won the Grade III Fred W. Hooper at Gulfstream Park. Munnings has already sired 18 winners in the first 25 days of 2020, including three stakes winners and one other stakes placed filly.
