Munnings Colt Brings $300,000 at OBS June

A Munnings colt out of Voyage was the highest priced colt during the second session of the OBS June 2-Year-Olds Sale and second most expensive colt overall when bringing $300,000 from Benjamin Gase.

Offered by Stori Atchison’s Dark Star Thoroughbreds, the :10.1 breezer is a half-brother to Grade III winner and Grade I-placed Great Island. He is a grandson of Matlacha Pass, the full sister to Grade I winning Pleasant Home and Grade II winner Country Hideaway.

Matlacha Pass herself is the dam of multiple Grade I winners Point of Honor and Pine Island among five stakes performers from seven winners.

“He had a really high action which I thought would throw a lot of people off, but I loved the way he moved–high knee action, pushed strong off of his hind end. And of course, you couple that with Munnings, who is as hot as they come right now. That's why we had to give what we gave,” trainer Keith Desormeaux told Thoroughbred Daily News after signing the ticket for the colt’s new owner.

Born on May 30, the colt was bred by Nathan McCauley.

Munnings is currently this year’s Leading General Sire by stakes winners with 11 and is also the sire of 18 stakes performers in 2022.
