Munnings’ Dash Attack Wins Long Branch
A Kentucky Derby prep winner for Munnings earlier this year, Dash Attack (3c Munnings x Cerce Cay, by Hard Spun) added a second stakes win to his 2022 record with a victory in Saturday’s Long Branch Stakes at Monmouth.
Racing near the back of the field early in the one-mile race run on a sloppy track, Dash Attack showed a major turn of foot around the turn. In only a few strides he was even with the leader and the race was on. The leader wasn’t going to give in, but Dash Attack proved too much for him in the closing stages to win by half a length with the rest of the field five lengths behind the top duo.
Trained by Kenny McPeek, Dash Attack is co-owned by breeders Catalyst Stable and Magdalena Racing along with Kevin Pollard and Patty Slevin.
The colt is one of three winners out of a half-sister to multiple stakes winners Song of Navarone and Celluloid Hero in addition to Grade III-placed Reel Legend.
Cerce Cay had a Munnings filly named Joelma last year as well.
Munnings has nine stakes winners and 15 stakes performers in 2022 with his nine stakes winners second to only Into Mischief – who only has one more stakes winner than him this year.
