Munnings Daughter Wins Third Stakes in Valor Farm
Douglas Scharbauer’s homebred Closing Act (3f Munnings x Evening Show, by Master Command) was back to her winning ways on Saturday with a victory in the Valor Farm Stakes.
Racing over six furlongs on the Lone Star Park dirt, the filly spent the early part of the race in second before jockey Erik Asmussen urged her to the lead at the half. She had to engage in a short duel with the previous leader before that one conceded in the stretch.
A closer was intent on catching Closing Act, but she dug deep in the end to win by a determined neck.
Trained by Steve Asmussen, the filly has won four of her seven starts for $248,346 in earnings. In addition to her three stakes victories, she also placed third in last year’s Grade III Schuylerville Stakes.
Closing Act is out of the stakes placed Evening Show, who is a half-sister to the stakes winning Impulsive. Evening Snow is the dam of four winners from five to race.
Munnings’ eight stakes winners in 2024 is sixth best among North American stallions with his 18 stakes performers putting him ninth in the class.
