Munnings Filly Tops Third Session at OBS March
Donato Lanni struck early in the third session of the OBS March Sale of Two-Year-Olds on Wednesday when going to $1 million to secure a Munnings filly for Frank Fletcher Racing Operations.
Consigned by Tom McCrocklin, the filly quickly became the most expensive filly of the three-day sale – and most expensive horse of the session - just two hips into Wednesday’s session with the winning bid. The daughter of the Smart Strike mare In Full Compliance has always been popular in the sales ring, bringing $450,000 at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale as well when purchased by Champion Equine from Paramount Sales.
"She is an exceptional filly," Lanni told Blood-Horse. "She worked great, came back great, and kept her weight. She is just a really cool, elegant filly. They gave a lot of money for her as a yearling. I'm glad we got her. This is the one I wanted to buy for Frank. He loves the game, he is great for the business, and he is a guy to cheer for."
Bred by Springhouse Farm, the Munnings daughter is out of a half-sister to stakes performers Devon Rock and Bear’s Swan with the trio all out of a daughter of champion La Chaposa. La Chaposa is the dam of Grade I winners Chaposa Springs and You And I.
Lanni also told Blood-Horse that Bill Mott will train the filly.
Munnings was also the sire of a $685,000 colt sold on Wednesday. Consigned by Eddie Woods, the colt purchased by OXO Equine is a half-brother to Mendelssohn's stakes winning Opus Forty Two.
In Full Compliance visited Mendelssohn last season and is the dam of two winners from her three named foals.
