Munnings’ Finite Back to Best in G3 Chilukki
Munnings’ Grade II winner Finite (3f Munnnings x Remit, by Tapit) added a fifth stakes victory to her resume on Saturday with an easy win in the Grade III Chilukki Stakes at Churchill Downs.
Racing over a mile on the dirt, the Steve Asmussen-trained Finite immediately settled into the middle of the pack under Ricardo Santana Jr. as he settled the filly about five lengths off a fast pace. Racing wide around the turn, Finite set down for a drive in the final two furlongs to keep her undefeated record in races at Churchill Downs intact.
While the leader tried to stick with her, Finite found another gear to easily pull away and win by 2½ lengths as the race favorite.
The winner of six of 11 starts with three seconds, Finite pushed her earnings over $750,000 with this victory for breeder and co-owner Winchell Thoroughbreds and co-owners Thomas Reiman, William Dickson, and Deborah Easter.
“She’s a really quality filly,” said Asmussen. “We had a really nice win last year at Churchill in the (Grade II) Golden Rod and going one-turn in the Rags to Riches. I think she had five wins in a row at one point last year.”
Finite is one of two stakes winners for multiple stakes winner Remit alongside Reride. Remit herself is a full sister to multiple graded stakes winner Tapiture, Grade III winner Rotation, and stakes winner Retap.
The sire of 42 stakes winners and 70 stakes horses, Munnings is having another exceptional year in 2020 as a leading sire of 3-year-olds with three graded stakes winner, five stakes winners, and 11 stakes horses from his 3-year-old crop alone this year.
