Munnings Juvenile Romps in Belmont MSW
A stellar week for Munnings continued on Thursday when his daughter Miss Alacrity (2f Munnings x Just Jenda, by Menifee) flew home in her debut at Belmont Park.
Racing over five furlongs on the dirt in the Maiden Special Weight, the Wesley Ward trainee broke strongly to race just behind the leader more than five lengths ahead of the rest of the field. The race favorite soon took command and by the top of the stretch was pulling away.
Jockey John Velazquez asked her for just a little more in midstretch and she responded to win by 10 lengths for CJ Thoroughbreds.
Bred by Milfer Farm, the filly was a $150,000 Keeneland November weanling when purchased by Canaan Creek Stables from Legacy Bloodstock.
A half-sister to stakes winner Jenda’s Agenda, Miss Alacrity is out of the multiple graded stakes winner Just Jenda. Just Jenda is out of stakes-placed Liberty School, a half-sister to Grade 2 winner and stakes producer Seeking Regina – whose daughter produced Grade I winner Sahara Sky. Another one of Liberty School’s half-sisters is Seeking Gabrielle, the dam of Uncle Mo’s champion and Grade I Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist.
This victory comes only days after Munnings’ Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Two-Year-Olds In Training Sale offerings were led by a $460,000 colt. That continued a week that saw Alda became his ninth stakes winner of the year with a victory in the Hilltop Stakes at Pimlico.
