Munnings’ Reach Felt Internationally at Goffs UK

Munnings’ reach at this year’s juvenile sales was felt internationally on Thursday with a colt out of Drunk Philosophy named Nightly Report selling for £205,000 ($267,911) at the Goffs UK Breeze Up Sale to Colm Sharkey as the second highest priced offering of the sale. That purchase came one day after he had a colt sell for $355,000 at the OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds.

The colt was consigned by Ballinahulla Stables this time through the ring after selling at Fasig-Tipton last October by Taylor Made on behalf of breeders Gene Tenbrink and Frank Ables.

“He's the only horse I wanted to buy, so I've waited all day for him,” Sharkey told Thoroughbred Daily News. “He's got a nice pedigree, did a nice, even breeze and vetted well. He'll head to Dubai now and hopefully race at the backend, once they get going in October or November.”

Dubai was graced with a top Munnings runner during this winter’s carnival when Shahama, a half-sister to Lookin At Lucky, won all four of her starts. That filly is now in training with Todd Pletcher preparing for the Kentucky Oaks.

One of the last 10 through the ring, the Kentucky-bred juvenile colt is a half-brother to one winner from one to race out of a winning Scat Daddy mare. Drunk Philosophy is one of four winners from her own dam with that group led by stakes winner Byhubbyhellomoney.

There are stakes winners under three of the colt’s first four dams with fourth dam Pine Tree Lane also a 19-time winner, including seven stakes races.

On this side of the ocean this week at OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds, Munnings juveniles have sold for up to $355,000 after Oracle Bloodstock reached that price in the second session. A :10.0 breezer, the colt is out of the 20 time winner Huntress Helena, who is a half-sister to two stakes winners.

These results come just a week after Munnings’ dual classic winner Munnyfor Ro was named Canada’s Champion 3-Year-Old Filly at an awards ceremony last Tuesday.
