Munnings’ Sharp Starr Dominates Aqueduct Allowance
The stakes-placed Sharp Starr (3f Munnings x Mindy Gold, by A.P. Indy) blasted home on Saturday with a 15 ¾ length romp in an Aqueduct Allowance.
Racing over a mile on the dirt, the Horacio DePaz-trainee was never far from the lead. The filly took command as they race around the far turn and the race was over from there. Straightening into the stretch, the filly never felt the whip and was eased down in the final sixteenth by Trevor McCarthy as she showed why she was a heavy favorite.
Owned and bred by Barry K. Schwartz, the filly has finished top three in six of her eight starts for nearly $120,000 in earnings.
A half-sister to multiple stakes placed runner Papa Shot, Sharp Starr is one of four winners out of a half-sister to Grade I placed Noble Causeway. A great-granddaughter of multiple Grade I winner Classy Cathy, the filly’s family also includes Grade I winner Audible and stakes winning, Group I-placed Rieno Tesoro.
A sire on fire, Munnings is the sire of 10 stakes winners and 19 stakes horses this year led by a trio of Grade II winners in Venetian Harbor, Finite and Bonny South.
