Munnyfor Ro (Munnings) wins the Wonder Where Stakes at Woodbine

Munnings’ Versatile Munnyfor Ro wins Wonder Where

Munnings saw two of his runners record stakes victories on Saturday when Munnyfor Ro (3f Munnings x Repartee, by Distorted Humor) won the Wonder Where Stakes shortly after Jack Christopher’s Grade 1 success.

Racing over 1 ¼ miles on the Woodbine turf, Munnyfor Ro was one of the back markers down the backstretch under Justin Stein. The race favorite was taken wide by Stein turning for home and the race was all but over.

Munnyfor Ro chased down the leader and had command at the sixteenth pole. From there, the Raroma Stable runner built a 1 ½ length margin for her second stakes victory.

“She’s all racehorse,” said Stein. “She felt the same (on turf), just that nice, efficient stride, and that strong kick down the stretch. Just reading the form, you could see there was no real speed, and we were forwardly placed. She was on the bridle and just had to settle her into stride and wait to turn her loose.”

Trained by Kevin Attard, Munnyfor Ro was only 1 ¾ lengths behind the winner when fourth in August’s Queen’s Plate against males. The filly had won the Woodbine Oaks on synthetic before that run and was second in a Grade III upon her return to Woodbine this summer.

In 2021 alone, she has finished in the top three in seven of nine starts.

Bred in Ontario by Daybar, Ltd., Munnyfor Ro is a granddaughter of stakes winner Dubai Dancer. That mare is a full sister to Grade I winner Little Belle, who produced Grade I winner Dickinson. Munnyfor Ro’s fourth dam is champion Flagbird, who is a half-sister to the dam of Horse of the Year Mineshaft and others.

Proving to be one of his sire Speightstown’s best sons at stud, Munnings was booked full in 2021.
