Perfect Munnings Continues Hot Streak For Sire
Perfect Munnings (3c Munnings x Our Perfect Ten, by Medaglia d’Oro) kept his perfect record intact and became Munnings’ 46th career stakes winner with a victory in the Rego Park Stakes on Sunday.
Racing over 6 ½ furlongs on the Aqueduct dirt, Perfect Munnings raced wide a few lengths behind the leaders as they raced down the backstretch. As they entered the turn, Perfect Munnings was just behind the front runners and closing quickly under Manny Franco. The Todd Pletcher trainee looked like he was dropping back in the stretch but quickly found another gear to take the lead in the final furlong.
Pulling away in the closing strides, Perfect Munnings won by two lengths for JP Racing Stable to lead home a Todd Pletcher 1-2 finish.
“We were pretty optimistic because of the way he breezes on the dirt,” said Pletcher assistant Byron Hughes. “He showed that ability today. He had a good post and Manny kept him in the clear and he ran well. Obviously, he’s won on turf and dirt. We’ll keep him up here for now and then we can go back to turf if we have to.”
Bred in New York by Tammy and Robert Klimasewski, Perfect Munnings is one of four winners for the Medaglia d’Oro mare Our Perfect Ten. The colt’s extended family also includes Grade II winners Elaborate and Ubiquity and Grade III winners Crowd Pleasure, Areyoutalkintome, and Yahilwa.
Coming off a top season in 2020, Munnings has been on first the first 10 days of 2021 with three stakes winners and four stakes horses.
