Practical Joke Colt Scores First Stakes Win in Rego Park
Mischief Joke (3c Practical Joke x Shesabitdistorted, by Distorted Humor) started his year off on a winning note when the Mike Maker trainee won the Rego Park Stakes on Sunday.
The 6 ½ furlong dirt race saw the colt get off to a rough start but he quickly overcame it to take over the lead when urged by Dylan Davis. He controlled the race from there and despite coming wide into the stretch, didn’t have anyone challenge him at that point.
Though he had another rival closing on him, Mischief Joke always had the upper hand and went on to win by a length with the third placed runner six lengths behind.
Bred by Pine Ridge Stables, the colt was earning his ninth top three finish in 10 starts. Racing for owners Paradise Farms Corp, Parkland Thoroughbred, Barry Fowler, and Angelo Carlesimo, the win took his earnings to $204,595.
Mischief Joke is one of six winners from six to race out of the Distorted Humor mare Shesabitdistorted. That mare is a full sister to Grade II winner and Grade I-placed Sharp Humor and one of three stakes performers out of Bellona.
This is the second stakes winner of the year for Practical Joke, putting him second among all North American sires and best of all fourth crop sires this year with his 17 winners also six better than Gun Runner in second.
