Practical Joke Hits New High With $260,000 Colt
Practical Joke’s outstanding first crop of weanlings hit another milestone on Friday when his colt out of Bailzee sold for $260,000 at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.
Bought by Larry Best’s OXO Equine from the Elm Tree Farm consignment as Hip 933, the Elm Tree Farm homebred is a half-brother to two winners from two to race out of his stakes placed dam. A good racemare herself, Bailzee is out of Grade II winner Golden Gale, making her a half-sister to Grade III-placed Knights Cross and the dams of stakes winner Cakewalk and Grade II placed Fleetwood, Sway Away and Shaken.
This is the second Practical Joke weanling purchased by OXO Equine this week after Best purchased the only Practical Joke on offer at Fasig-Tipton’s November Sale for $240,000, the stallion’s second highest priced weanling.
Grade I winning first-crop sire Practical Joke saw three of his weanlings sell for six figures at Keeneland on Friday, including a $210,000 colt earlier in the session. He has proven to be a popular young sire for breeders and buyers alike with his first weanling to go through the ring this year topping the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Fall Sale.
