Practical Joke at the stables

Practical Joke Offerings Led By $300,000 Colt

It was yet another sale where Practical Joke offerings were in demand on Tuesday with his six sold topped by a $300,000 colt purchased by Joe Novogratz.

Seeing horses under both his first and second dams winning races, the colt consigned by Warrendale Sales for Mesingw Farm is out of the six-time winner Summer Punch. That mare’s first foal is a three-time winner this year at three.

Summer Punch is a granddaughter of the Grade I winner Summer Colony, who produced the stakes winner Summer Laugh - a full sister to the colt’s granddam Summer Humor. Summer Humor produced the stakes placed Summer’s Indy and the dam of the stakes placed Elite Status with five winners from five runners overall. The mare is one of three of the colt’s dams on the page to produce at least one stakes performer.

Practical Joke's yearlings averaged $164,167 at this sale with a median of $152,500, the average putting him third among all stallions with five or more sold.

The sire of four crops of racing age, Practical Joke’s 19 stakes performers this year puts him sixth among all North American sires with that group including six stakes winners.
