Practical Joke’s Awesome Native Romps At Aqueduct
Practical Joke’s Awesome Native (4c Practical Joke x Bella Kateri, by Tale of the Cat) stayed undefeated in a big way on Saturday with a 6 ¼ length Aqueduct Allowance win.
Racing seven furlongs on the New York dirt, the heavy favorite let the top two horses duel a few lengths in front of him as he settled in third with another horse right inside him. As they navigated the far turn, Awesome Native left that horse behind and rolled wide to confront the leaders with neither having enough to hold him off.
Without ever being fully asked by Manny Franco, Awesome Native galloped well in front of the field to take his record to two-from-two by a combined 11 ¾ lengths in those two starts.
Trained by Jorge Abreu, the colt is a homebred runner for Tom and Joan Farone. He comes from the family of Grade III winners Restrainedvengence and Bob’s Edge in addition to his stakes winning third dam Cupids Revenge.
Practical Joke is the sire of five winners already in 2023 with the stallion’s 102 winners above and beyond the most winners of any third-crop sire. Included in that group are 11 stakes winners and 20 stakes performers.
