Practical Joke at the stables

Practical Joke’s Momentum Continues at OBS March

Practical Joke’s only two 2-year-olds to go through the ring during Tuesday’s session at the OBS March Sales of Two-Year-Olds In Training Sale proved to be much-wanted with both bringing $200,000 or more.

Selling within four hips of each other, Hip 113 proved to be the more expensive of the pair when the colt out of Mystic City sold to W.E. Morey as agent for Sandin Syndicate Stable for $210,000. Consigned by Eddie Woods, the colt was the fastest of his sire’s quarter mile breezers when stopping the clock in :21.1. His future looks bright with his dam producing two winners from two to race and the double threat of being out of a good family and bred on a success cross.

Out of a two-time stakes winner in Mystic City, only his unraced second dam didn’t earn a stakes placing of the four show on the page with his young dam the only one not to produce a stakes winner yet from her two foals. Carson City granddaughters have done well with Practical Joke’s sire Into Mischief, producing two stakes performers and nine winners from 11 runners by led by Grade III winner and Grade II-placed Gas Station Sushi.

Selling as Hip 109, a filly out of My Hopeful Heart was signed for by Eddie Kenneally on behalf of W.K. Werner for $200,000.

Bred by Catherine Zoc, the filly was consigned by Old South Farm and is a half-sister to two winners from her dam’s four to race. My Hopeful Heart is a half-sister to Grade 3-placed Kinsella with her dam a half-sister to Grade III winner and Grade II-placed Secret Liaison. The filly’s extended family also includes Grade I winner Raging Fever.

She is bred on the same cross as multiple graded stakes winner Sombeyay and stakes-placed Risky Mischief from three runners by Into Mischief out of Grand Slam granddaughters.

Triple Grade I winner Practical Joke’s first crop has been in-demand at every stage with his first weanlings including a $320,000 colt and averaging $102,028, his first yearlings were led by a $575,000 colt to average $120,243, with these 2-year-olds being his first two to go through the ring at this stage.
