Practical Joke’s Song Parody Catches Eye at Belmont
Song Parody (2f Practical Joke x Songofthecity, by Songandaprayer) made a big impression on debut at Belmont on Saturday with a 5 ½ length Maiden Special Weight victory.
The filly broke fastest of all in the five-furlong dirt race and the contest was mostly over before it even began. Jose Ortiz rode the juvenile patiently in a ride where she felt very little pressure and asked for a little more in the stretch. By the time they crossed the line, Song Parody was 5 ½ lengths the best and expanding her margin with every stride.
The Kelly Breen trainee is owned by Emcee Stable, Fortune Farm, and Robert Hahn and was bred in New York by Lambholm.
The filly is out of a stakes-placed half-sister to dual Grade I winner Midnight Lucky with that pair out of a full sister to Grade I winner Hookedonthefeelin. That mare produced Grade I winners Pussycat Doll and Jimmy Creed with her daughter producing Giant’s Causeway’s Grade I winner Aquaphobia.
Practical Joke’s juvenile crop already includes a stakes performer in Pure Fire, who finished third in last weekend’s Santa Anita Futurity on debut.
