Quality Group on Offer by Cupid at Keeneland September
Selling for $900,000 at the 2014 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, Grade 1 winner Cupid sees his first yearlings enter the same pavilion this year.
The good looking son of Tapit has 39 yearlings on offer throughout the sale, starting with Book 2.
That filly, Hip 541 from breeder Clarkland Farm, is a half-sister to stakes winner and Grade III-placed Giza Goddess. Their dam Comfort and Joy is a half-sister to dual Grade III winner The Pamplemousse and stakes winning American Lady among four stakes horses with multiple graded stakes producer Wilshewed under her third dam.
Cupid sends out six in Book 3, starting with a Bob and Alice Austin-bred half-brother to Munnings’ stakes winner and Grade II-placed King Kranz as Hip 1524. That Legacy Bloodstock-consigned colt is out of a half-sister to stakes winning and Grade I-placed King Congie with his third dam the dam of three stakes winners.
Hip 1644 consigned by Taylor Made and bred by Kris R. Del Giudice is from a proven dam of four winners from five to race. His half-siblings include Royal Ascot Group II winner Shang Shang Shang with their dam stakes placed herself. There are stakes horses under all four of the dams on this colt’s page, including Grade I winner The Great Day.
The New York-bred Hip 1948 out of Fusaichi Pegasus’s Sense of Class consigned by Sequel New York has siblings who have already proved the family can both run and produce. Bred by Sequel Stallions New York LLC and NYP Bloodstock, the colt is a half-brother to Grade III winner Peace Achieved, who finished fourth in the Listed Dueling Grounds Derby at Kentucky Downs on Thursday, and a half-brother to the dam of multiple stakes winner Analyze the Odds.
Others in Book 3 by Cupid include Hip 1671 from Taylor Made, a half-sister to two stakes horses and granddaughter of a Canadian champion, and Buckland Sales’ Hip 1715 from the family of Horse of the Year Point Given.
Cupid’s Book 4 kicks off with Hip 2294 from Denali Stud bred by Runnymede Farm and sold for $130,000 as a weanling at Keeneland last November. A half-sister to four runners from four to race, the filly is out of a stakes placed dam to three other stakes horses, including Grade I-placed Pinch Pie. This filly’s third dam is also the dam of Grade I Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Volponi with stakes class throughout the page.
Hip 2500 consigned by Blandford Bloodstock is a half-sister to stakes winning Watch Me Burn. Bred by Westwind Farms, the filly’s dam is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner and Grade II-placed Restrainedvengence and stakes winner B G Suavecito in addition to two other stakes horses out of the multiple stakes winning Cupids Revenge.
Book 4 also includes Hip 2459 from Ballysax Bloodstock, out of a full sister to Grade I winner and sire Majesticperfection, and James Keogh’s Hip 2522, a half-brother to stakes winner Devilish Love.
Book 5 starts with Hip 2828, named Draw Back Your Bow, from Stony Point. The half-sister to two winners from three to race, the filly is out of stakes placed What She Said. Her family includes stakes winners in the U.A.E., United States, and Venezuela – including a four-time champion.
A half-sister to stakes placed There’syourtrouble, Gainesway-consigned 2829 is out of a half-sister to Grade I winner Noble’s Promise. A half-sister to three winners from five to race, the chestnut bred by C. Kidder, N. Cole and B. Kidder has stakes horses under each of her first four dams.
Hip 3105 has a family so deep only his first two dams are shown. The colt from Castle Park Farm is a half-brother to stakes placed Bossy, among six winners from six runners out of Profit Girl. That mare is a full sister to multiple stakes winner Yearly Report and stakes placed Quarterly Report. Yearly Report is also the dam of Grade I winner Condo Commando and Grade II-placed Checklist while a third sister produced Grade III-placed Perennial Song.
Eaton Sales presents Hip 3123 in Book 5, a Cupid half-sister to multiple stakes winner Blazinbeauty and stakes placed Indigo Beauty. They are two of five winners from five to race out of Rockport Beauty, who is also a half-sister to stakes placed Appalachian Trail with this filly’s third dam both a stakes winner and a stakes producer.
Vinery Sales sends out Hip 3304, a half-brother to a four-time winner from one to race out of his dam. His dam is a Forestry half-sister to Grade I winner Her Emmynency and stakes placed Perfect Star with their dam a half-sister to the dam of two-time Turkish Horse of the Year Good Curry.
Selling late in the second session of Book 5 is a half-brother to stakes winner Muskoka Wonder. Consigned as Hip 3451 from St George Sales, the colt is out of a half-sister to dual Grade I winner Weemissfrankie and two other stakes horses with an unraced half-sister producing stakes winning Peace of My Heart.
Cupid’s other offerings in Book 5 include Hip 2881 from Taylor Made, out of a half-sister to Chilean champion Desert Power; Taylor Made’s Hip 3124, a half-sister to a stakes placed runner and granddaughter of a Group I winner; Hip 3391 from Shawhan Place, who is a half-brother to a Grade III winner and great-grandson of champion Safely Kept; and Warrendale Sales’ Hip 3534, the first foal out of a full sister to Grade I winner Capo Bastone.
There are only two chances to get a Cupid yearling in Book 6 with one on each day.
Lantern Hill consigns Hip 3773, a granddaughter of Soaring Softly’s stakes-placed Shine Softly. Shine Softly is a half to two stakes winners with another half-sister producing three stakes horses, including multiple stakes winner Spring to the Sky.
The final day of the sale brings Stonehaven Steadings’ Hip 4116 into the ring. Bred by his consignor, the colt out of Grade II-placed Long Approach has seen multiple updates since the catalog was released. Long Approach now has six winners from six to race with that sixth winner, Autumn Arrives, not only breaking her maiden since the catalogue was released but also finishing third in the Washington Oaks at the start of the month in only her third start.
Cupid’s first yearlings through the ring this summer were led by a $130,000 filly at the Fasig-Tipton Selected Yearlings Showcase last week with the stallion having three six-figure weanlings last winter as well.
Keeneland’s September Yearling Sale starts at noon on Sunday and Monday before switching to 10 a.m. on Wednesday after Tuesday’s dark day.
