Salomar Leads Another Practical Joke Stakes Exacta

Practical Joke’s Group I-placed Salomar (3f Practical Joke x South Dorotea, by Southern Halo) added a stakes victory to her record on Saturday when she led home an exacta for her sire in the Group II Prix Fernando Coloma Reyes.

Running over 1 1/8 miles on the dirt, the filly raced in second far behind a runaway pacesetter who opened up over five lengths on the field. That horse started to fade as they raced around the far turn and fellow Practical Joke filly Barbary collared her before Salomar made her move but the winner was soon right there with her

Those two were quickly battling for the win with Salomar coming out 1 1/4 lengths the best and the rest of the field 8 ¼ lengths behind the winner.

The two fillies race for Vendaval and were bred by Haras Paso Nevado with Carlos Urbina training the winner. Salomar is a three-time winner from four starts with her only loss coming when second to Practical Joke’s Joke Sisi in August’s Group I Clasico Dos Mil Guineas.

Salomar is the second stakes winner for three-time winner South Dorotea, who produced stakes winner Hat Dolar and stakes-placed Domino Rye as well.

Practical Joke is the sire of 13 worldwide stakes winners, with eight of those coming in group stakes, and 28 stakes performers. The group is led by four Grade I winners, including Grade I Frizette winner and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies contender Chocolate Gelato.
