Boldor (Munnings) wins The King Cotton Stakes at Oaklawn Park

Second Straight Stakes Victory for Boldor

It was a second straight stakes victory for Boldor (5g Munnings x Senate Caucus, by Siphon) on Saturday when he took out the King Cotton Stakes at Oaklawn Park.

Racing in midpack in the six furlong race, the gelding raced comfortably between horses down the backstretch. But when David Cabrera swung Boldor to the outside in the far turn it was game on. Boldor lengthened his stride in the mud and started cutting into the margin between him and the leaders.

It took until the final sixteenth but Boldor was able to close the gap and crossed the line a length in front for Ed and Susie Orr.

Trained by Steve Asmussen, this was Boldor’s fifth victory in 14 starts with the gelding taking his earnings to $335,197.

The Virginia-bred was a $700,000 21-year-old purchase in 2018 by the Orrs from Randy Miles. He was bred by Carlos Moore and Gillian Gordon-Moore out of their three-time winner Senate Caucus. That mare is the dam of three stakes horses with one of her other daughters producing the stakes winning Sprezzatura as well.

Boldor is the latest in a group of successful horses for his family with his dam the half-sister to the dam of champion Summer Bird with Grade I winners Rubiano and Tapit under his third dam alongside Lookin At Lucky’s multiple Grade II winner Madefromlucky.

Munnings is second among all sires by number of winners and stakes winners with Munnings already having three stakes winners in 2021.
