Social Engagement 18th Winner for Cupid
It was another weekend winner for Cupid on Saturday when Social Engagement (2f Cupid x Cherryblossommiss, by Langfuhr) broke her maiden at Churchill Downs to become her sire’s 18th winner.
Making her second career start for Pocket Aces Racing and Brendan Walsh, the dark bay raced just a length behind the leader among a tight group of front runners. The race favorite gave herself clear running room as they entered the final half mile of the 1 1/16 mile dirt race and started to make her challenge.
The filly entered the fray around the far turn and took a slight advantage but it wasn’t until midstretch that she was free from all other challengers. From there, she raced to a 2 ¾ length victory for her connections.
The filly is one of five winners out of the stakes-place Cherryblossommiss, a half-sister to multiple Grade II winner Imperialism and stakes winner White Beauty. This is also the family of dual Grade I winner Colonel John and the Grade III winner and Grade I-placed Comical.
Grade I winner Cupid’s 18 winners is fifth best among all freshmen with his runners including three stakes performers and two stakes winners.
