The Sky Is Falling Gives Cupid Sixth Winner
Cupid scored a sixth winner on Friday night when The Sky Is Falling (2f Cupid x Miss Henny Penny, by Half Ours) won a Maiden Special Weight on debut at Charles Town.
The 4 ½ furlong dirt sprint run under the lights saw The Sky Is Falling break a bit slow with Arnaldo Bocachica hustling her after a trio of runaway leaders. Sent a few paths wide as they raced around the turn, The Sky Is Falling showed her talent to close from over five lengths behind and pass the longtime leader in the final sixteenth.
In full flight when she took the lead, The Sky Is Falling built a one-length margin by the time she reached the wire with the third place runner 5 ¼ lengths behind the leading duo.
Bred by Catherine Jennings and Scott Mallory, The Sky Is Falling was sold as a short yearling by Mallory’s consignment to Pat Maciriello. She is trained by Jeff Runco for David Raim.
The Sky Is Falling is a half-sister to stakes winner Door Buster and two other winners from three siblings to race out of stakes-placed Miss Henny Penny. That mare is a half-sister to stakes-placed Country Mamma. The family also includes dual Grade I winner Super Diamond among others.
A Grade I winner by Tapit, Cupid has sired six winners from his first crop with the winners coming in four different countries.
