Twenty-Four Maximum Security Yearlings Set for Keeneland September

Twenty-four first crop yearlings are on offer by champion Maximum Security at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale over the next two weeks.

The first through the ring by the stallion is Hip 936 from Paramount Sales. The colt is out of the Bernardini mare Lady Hester, whose first foal is the winning Amalfi Lady. Bred by Frankfort Park Farm and Bemart, this colt sold for $150,000 as a weanling at Keeneland November.

He is a grandson of champion Questing, who is also the dam of Grade III winner Adventuring and Grade II-placed Romantic Pursuit. Questing is out of the multiple stakes winning Chercheuse, who is also the granddam of Grade III-placed Cover Version. Lady Hester visited Epicenter this year.

St George Sales consigns Hip 1821, a half-brother to Grade III winner Gibberish and the stakes placed Carom from three to race out of Nippy.

Bred by Dell Ridge Farm, the colt’s dam is a half-sister to Grade II winner Well Monied, Grade III winners and Grade I-placed Economic Model and Happy American and stakes winners Jimmy Simms and Your Love. Well Monied is also the dam of Grade III winner and multiple Grade I-placed Will’s Secret and Grade III placed Ben Diesel as well.

Hailing from the family of champion sire Danehill is Hip 1865, a colt out of Regal Rags. Consigned by Four Star Sales, the colt is the first foal out of a half-sister to the Group I winner Unreachable. Each of the mares with racing age foals have produced stakes performers with his third dam a Grade III winning full sister to Danehill, Grade II winner Eagle Eyed, and multiple graded stakes winner Shibboleth.

In all, there are seven stakes winners and four other stakes performers on the page. Bred by S. Rio Vista Stables, this colt was a $110,000 Keeneland September Yearling purchase from the Greenfield Farms consignment.

Hip 2293 saw an update when his dam’s half-sister produced the stakes winning Daring Do, who won the Peach Patch Stakes on July 16.

The colt is the third foal out of a Galileo half-sister to Grade I winner Hootenanny and the stakes winning Ryder Ryder Ryder. Their dam More Hennessy is a half-sister to the Grade I winner Cat Moves and stakes winner Dance Hall Days in addition to the Grade III-placed Forty Moves.

Cat Moves is also the granddam of stakes winner Ain’t Life Grand while Forty Moves is the granddam of Cheapskate Diva. Consigned by Lane’s End for breeder Summer Wind Farm, this colt is a half-brother to a weanling filly by American Pharoah.

Bred by Beau Lane, Hip 2474 consigned by Vinery Sales is the first foal out of Crafty Lady. That mare is a three-quarter sister to the dual Grade I winner Giant Oak, multiple stakes winner Apple Martini, and stakes winner and Grade III-placed Oak Brook. In all, this filly’s granddam has produced seven stakes performers with a stakes placed daughter also producing the multiple stakes placed Crafty’s Dream.

Out of a half-sister to the Grade I winner Mongolian Groom is the Taylor Made-consigned Hip 2970. The colt is the second foal out of Inara Serra.

The colt’s fourth dam is the multiple Grade I winner Versailles Treaty, who also produced the Grade I winning George Vancouver and Grade II winner Saarland. Each of the dams on this page with foals to race have produced at least one stakes performer with many of their daughters also producing stakes performers.

The group of 13 stakes performers include multiple Grade II winner Dragon Bay, Grade I placed Luminance, and Grade II placed Stellar Sound. Inara Serra went to the Ashford shed again this year when she visited Golden Pal in his first year at stud.

Denali Stud is the consignor of Hip 3018, a filly out of three-time winner Maggie Simon. Bred in Florida by Ryan Hudson, the filly is a half-sister to three winners from five to race, with her dam’s juvenile also placed in two starts this year. Maggie Simon is a half-sister to the Grade I winning Comma To The Top and the stakes winner and Grade III-placed Vending Machine.

Three of the four dams on the page have produced stakes winners with her Grade III winning third dam including 19-time winner and stakes winner Yes He’s a Pistol and eight-time winner and stakes-placed Dumaani of Course.

Maximum Security’s Hip 3062 from the Lane’s End consignment is out of a half-sister to this year’s Group III La Coupe de winner Naranco, who won that race after the catalog was released.

Bred by Don Alberto, the colt’s dam Paixao is out of a Galileo three-quarter sister to multiple Group I winner High Chaparral and the Group II winner and Group I-placed Black Bear Island. The colt’s third dam has 14 stakes performers listed under her name with the group also including Group I winner Fancy Blue and Group II winners Hunting Horn and David Livingston among others.

The final offering by Maximum Security comes from the Taylor Made Sales consignment as Hip 3771. That yearling is the first foal out of a multiple winning Into Mischief half-sister to stakes winner Shooger Ray Too and Grade III-placed Awesome Boss. The colt’s third dam is the Grade I winner Jilbab while his fourth is a half-sister to the Grade I-winning Saratoga Six.

That fourth dam has produced Group I winner Ancient World and the granddam of stakes winner Swinging Mandy. This colt was bred by Pedro Gonzalez in Kentucky, who sent his dam to Champion 2-Year-Old Male Corniche this year.

The Keeneland September Yearling Sale kicks off on September 11 and runs through September 23. Maximum Security’s final offering goes through the ring on September 22.
