Warrior’s Charge Returns a Winner For Munnings
Making his first start since finishing fourth in this year’s Grade I Preakness Stakes, Warrior’s Charge (3c Munnings x Battling Brook, by Broken Vow) proved to be better than ever when winning well at Fair Grounds on Wednesday.
Running over 1 1/16 miles on the dirt for trainer Brad Cox, Warrior’s Charge broke strongly and went straight to the lead under Florent Geroux. Geroux looked confident in his mount from that point on, letting Warrior’s Charge gallop comfortably in front throughout much of the race.
Warrior’s Charge was challenged as they entered the stretch and had to find another gear to repel Gun It (Tapit) but did so handily to pull away and win by two lengths as the favorite.
Raced by Ten Strike Racing and Madaket Stable, Warrior’s Charge has won three of his seven starts with three third place finishes as well for $265,310 in earnings.
Warrior’s Charge was bred by Al Shaquab Racing and is the first foal out of listed placed Battling Brook, who is from the family of Grade II winner El Coliseo. The mare returned to Munnings this year for her fourth foal.
A proven value sire, Munnings has sired 153 winners in 2019 with 10 stakes winners including Grade II winning juvenile Finite and Grade III winning 3-year-old Fancy Dress Party.
