Woodbine Oaks Winner Munnyfor Ro Completes Big Day For Munnings
It was a successful day at Woodbine for Coolmore America stallions when Classic Empire’s winner was followed up by Munnings’s Munnyfor Ro (3f Munnings x Repartee, by Distorted Humor) winning the Woodbine Oaks.
One of two stakes winners in 15 minutes for Munnings, the filly broke widest of all in the 1 1/8 mile racing on the synthetic surface. Keen to go on, Munnyfo Ro made jockey Justin Stein take a tight grip as they raced near the back of the field.
The filly crept up to midpack after settling under her jockey but didn’t make her move until the far turn.
Going widest of all, the filly’s big strides put her even with the longtime leader at the top of the stretch. That filly wasn’t about to give in and battled back but in the end, Munnyfo Ro wasn’t taking no for an answer.
The Munnings filly pulled away by 1 ¼ lengths for Raroma Stables and trainer Kevin Attard to secure the stakes victory after being second in the Grade III Selene Stakes last out.
“We were expecting a good performance out of her,” said Attard. “She came up here this season in good shape from [trainer] Brian Lynch – had a great campaign over the winter time. She ran a fabulous race [second] in the [Grade 3] Selene. I thought she’d move off that race forwardly enough to kind of be really competitive here today. Had a good interim breeze and put it all together.”
Taking her earnings up to $320,985 with the victory, Munnyfo Ro has now finished top three in six of her nine starts.
Bred by Daybar, Ltd in Ontario, Munnyfo Ro is a granddaughter of stakes winner Dubai Dancer. That mare is a full sister to Grade I winner Little Belle, who also produced Grade I winner Dickinson. Munnyfo Ro’s fourth dam is champion Flagbird.
Munnings’ 13 stakes winners in 2021 is the third best of any North American sire with the stallion’s 25 stakes performers the fourth best. An in-demand sire, Munnings was booked full in 2021.
