American Pharoah

A Champion at two and three, in addition to winning the Triple Crown and becoming Horse of the Year, American Pharoah showed all the talent, versatility, durability and courage which entitles him to considerable respect as a stallion. He quickly proved his worth when the first of his four crops of racing age earned him the title of Champion First-Crop Sire. He has Gr.1 winners in each of his first three crops, including four individual Gr.1 winners in 2022. Predictably, his success as a sire has translated into sales ring success, with each of his first four crops containing seven-figure yearlings.

American Pharoah’s bloodlines make him a particularly valuable outcross. Mr Prospector is back in the sixth generation of his foals and his pedigree is free of A.P. INDY, SEATTLE SLEW, DANZIG, SADLER’S WELLS, DEPUTY MINISTER, ROBERTO and HALO. Even Storm Cat is back in the fourth generation of his foals and Fappiano in the fifth, allowing a second line.

American Pharoah’s Gr.1-winning half-sister Chasing Yesterday is by TAPIT, so it is hardly surprising that daughters of TAPIT are playing a part in his success story. All of his first six runners out of TAPIT mares are winners, including his Gr.1 winner Harvey’s Lil Goil and the Japanese Listed winner Reframe. TAPIT is a grandson of A.P. INDY and American Pharoah already has black-type winners out of mares by A.P. Indy’s sons FLATTER (Gr.2 winner Merneith), A.P. WARRIOR and MINESHAFT.

American Pharoah has numerous black-type winners from the MR PROSPECTOR male line. His first Group winner, the speedy juvenile Maven, is out of a grand-daughter of DISTORTED HUMOR, while his very smart Japanese dirt horse Danon Pharaoh is out of a grand-daughter of MR GREELEY. His Gr.2 winner Forbidden Kingdom is out of a grand-daughter of CARSON CITY.

SADLER’S WELLS sired the dam of his Gr.1 2YO winner Van Gogh. His first 14 starters out of GALILEO mares included five Group performers, headed by the 2022 Gr.1 winner Above The Curve and Gr.2 winner Pista. His first starter out of a MEDAGLIA D’ORO mare was the Saratoga Listed winner Another Miracle.

Pioneerof The Nile did well with the HAIL TO REASON line and American Pharoah is now mirroring this success, siring the speedy Gr.2 winner Four Wheel Drive and the Japanese Gr.1 dirt winner Café Pharoah from daughters of MORE THAN READY. HALO sired the grandam of his stakes winner Disco Pharoah.

American Pharoah’s Gr.2 winner Sweet Melania has a dam by STORM CAT’s grandson DISCREET CAT and is therefore inbred 4x4, as is the Gr.3 winner Turned Aside. The Gr.2 winner Pista has a second dam by STORM CAT and is therefore inbred 4x3. American Pharoah’s first starter out of a SCAT DADDY mare is the 2YO Grade 1-placed black-type winner Mackinnon. Clearly the STORM CAT line is one to follow.

American Pharoah is working with sons of DANZIG. His speedy Gr.3-winning son Turned Aside has a dam by WAR FRONT and his talented Irish filly Willow has a dam by DANEHILL.

American Pharoah’s Gr.1-winning daughter As Time Goes By has a dam by DEHERE and his Listed winner Fi Fi Pharoah is out of a GHOSTZAPPER mare. Other DEPUTY MINISTER line mares therefore should suit.

A daughter of IN EXCESS produced the Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming to Bodemeister and the Gr.2 winner Positive Thinking to Pioneerof The Nile. This suggests that daughters of UNCLE MO will also thrive with American Pharoah.
