American Pharoah
A Champion at two and three, in addition to winning the Triple Crown and becoming Horse of the Year, American Pharoah showed all the talent, versatility, durability and courage which entitle him to considerable respect as a stallion. He quickly proved his worth when he earned the title of Champion First-Crop Sire and, with five crops of racing age, he ranks sixth on the Leading Sires table in 2023 (to early November).
American Pharoah’s bloodlines make him a particularly valuable outcross. Mr Prospector is back in the sixth generation of his foals and his pedigree is free of A.P. INDY, SEATTLE SLEW, DANZIG, SADLER’S WELLS, DEPUTY MINISTER, ROBERTO and HALO. Even Storm Cat is in the fourth generation of his foals and Fappiano in the fifth, allowing second lines.
His Gr.1-winning half-sister Chasing Yesterday is by TAPIT, so it is hardly surprising that daughters of TAPIT are playing a part in his success story. Eight of his first nine starters out of TAPIT mares are winners, including Gr.1 winner Harvey’s Lil Goil, 2023 Gr.2 winner Window Shopping and Japanese Listed winner Reframe. American Pharoah also has Stakes winners out of mares by A.P. Indy’s sons FLATTER, A.P. WARRIOR and MINESHAFT. Daughters of BERNARDINI have 13% SWs with Pioneerof The Nile, including Gr.1 winner Matareya.
American Pharoah’s 2023 Gr.3 winner Promiseher America is out of an UNBRIDLED’S SONG mare and is therefore inbred 4x3 to UNBRIDLED. American Pharoah’s first GSW, the speedy Maven, was out of a grand-daughter of DISTORTED HUMOR, while his smart Japanese dirt horse Danon Pharaoh is out of a grand-daughter of MR. GREELEY. He also has the Gr.2 winner Forbidden Kingdom out of a grand-daughter of CARSON CITY.
American Pharoah when mated with a SADLER’S WELLS mare produced the Gr.1 2yo winner Van Gogh. American Pharoah’s first 19 starters out of GALILEO mares include Gr.1 winner Above The Curve and Gr.2 winner Pista.
He also hit the Gr.1 target with MEDAGLIA D’ORO mares, thanks to 2023 New York S. winner Marketsegmentation. More mares by GALILEO, EL PRADO, MEDAGLIA D’ORO and KITTEN’S JOY are called for.
American Pharoah is successful with the HAIL TO REASON line siring the Gr.2 winner Four Wheel Drive and the Japanese Gr.1 dirt winner Café Pharoah from daughters of MORE THAN READY.

GIANT’S CAUSEWAY is broodmare sire of American Pharoah’s Gr.1-placed son Pioneering Spirit and his Grade 1 performer Ocean Atlantique, while his Gr.2 winner Sweet Melania has a dam by STORM CAT’s grandson DISCREET CAT and is therefore inbred 4x4, as are the Gr.3 winners Promiseher America and Turned Aside. His Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup runner-up Jody’s Pride has a dam by SCAT DADDY and a grandam by SPEIGHTSTOWN making her inbred 4x5x5 to STORM CAT. The Gr.1 winner Marketsegmentation and Gr.2 winner Pista have second dams by STORM CAT and are therefore inbred 4x3.
His Gr.1 winner As Time Goes By has a dam by DEHERE and his Listed winner Fi Fi Pharoah is out of a GHOSTZAPPER mare, making the DEPUTY MINISTER line a worthy option.
