$230,000 Pinhook Winner for Calyx
The first yearling to be offered from the first Australian crop of brilliant Kingman speedster Calyx proved a pinhook winner when selling for $230,000 at Magic Millions on the Gold Coast this week.
Consigned by Coolmore, the colt from Without Saying was purchased by Mulcaster Bloodstock/Chris Waller Racing Pty Ltd, who have tasted recent success with a Coolmore Magic Millions purchase in Madame Pommery.
They secured the No Nay Never filly for $150,000 in 2021 and she won the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas last spring to the great delight of her all women syndicate of owners.
The Calyx colt was bred by super successful Victorian breeders Makybe and snapped up from their Magic Millions National Weanling Sale draft for $40,000 by John McConnell. He is the fourth foal of placed Sepoy mare Without Saying, a grand-daughter of blue hen Shantha’s Choice, the dam of Group I winners Redotue’s Choice, Manhattan Rain and Platinum Scissors.
