Consignors Reap Rewards With Calyx At Tattersalls

Stone Farm enjoyed a superb result at the Tattersalls December Mare Sale when selling a mare in foal to Calyx for 150,000gns.

Covered at a fee of €22,500, two-time winner Winter Light (Lot 1604) was in foal for the first time and was knocked down to agent Alex Elliott for 150,000gns. The half-sister to recent Japanese Group 2 winner Mondreise is a grand-daughter of Sweet Solera Stakes heroine Mystic Goddess, herself the dam of Medicean.

Norelands Stud also enjoyed a profitable result with a mare carrying to Calyx when Chesapeake Shores (Lot 1393) sold to Highflyer Bloodstock for 100,000gns. The daughter of Camelot is a winning sister to Irish Derby victor Frozen Fire (Montjeu) and Stakes performer Sir Walter Scott (Galileo).

Calyx’s appeal is multi-faceted. He is the fastest son of sire sensation Kingman, out of a Group 3 winning full-sister to top-class sprinter African Rose. His impressive debut earned a rating of 110 from Timeform, who described him as “one of the most exciting Coventry winners for some time,” after his Group 2 success next time out. John Gosden’s charge confirmed his class on his three-year-old return when racing four lengths clear in the Group 3 Commonwealth Cup.

As his trainer said, “Calyx always had that rare brilliance you only see in champions.”
