Superstar Mares to Visit Justify
The Inglis Chairman’s Sale at Riverside Stables on Friday featured a mouth-watering selection of premium mares with Coolmore purchasing the two top lots in Maastricht and Srikandi to be served by US Triple Crown winner Justify in his first Southern Hemisphere season at stud in Australia later this year.
Knocked down to Coolmore/James Bester Bloodstock at $2,250,000 was stunning grey Mastercraftsman mare Maastricht, a Group II place-getter whose first foal is this season’s Group I placed Group III winning juvenile Loving Gaby. She was offered for sale back in foal to Loving Gaby’s sire I Am Invincible.
"If you go back, she's the highest-priced Mastercraftsman in the southern hemisphere, her first foal Loving Gaby is right up there as the best 2YO of her season, her filly foal on the ground by Sebring is dead-set beautiful and she's back in foal to Vinnie as her third cover,” said Bruce Slade of Newgate Farm, who consigned the mare on behalf of her owners Alan Bell and Ananda Krishnan.
"She's done nothing wrong and she's still so young, a blue hen in the making.''
Dual Group I winner Srikandi was bought by Tom Magnier for $2million and the daughter of Dubawi was in foal to American Pharoah. Her second foal, a filly by I Am Invincible, topped the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale on Thursday when fetching $600,000.
"There's a lot of the best breeders in Australia sending their mares to Justify this year and I guess we want to join them,'' Tom Magnier said.
"We want to go out and find the best mares for Justify. It's pretty exciting having him.
"These types of mares, Maastricht and Srikandi, they're hard to get your hands on so when they become available, you need to be there.”
