310,000gns Colt Leads Successful Sale For Churchill

Churchill’s terrific season saw his progeny command excellent prices at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, led by Ed Sackville and Dermot Farrington’s 310,000gns purchase on the final day of Book 2.

The Churchill colt in question was offered by Clare Castle Stud and is out of a black-type sister to dual Group/Grade 1 victor Treasure Beach (Galileo). After confirming Lot 1154 was bought on behalf of Jim Hay, Sackville said, “Churchill has had an outstanding year on the track headlined by the filly, Blue Rose Cen, in France. He’s from a brilliant farm who bred the broodmare sire Authorized (Montjeu) and his half- sister Andromede is now a Stakes winner – there’s plenty happening in the family.”

Camas Park Stud consigned Churchill’s second six-figure yearling of the day, a colt which sold to McKeever Bloodstock and Charlie Hills for 125,000gns. Earlier in the sale, Andrew Balding went to 100,000gns for Highclere Stud’s Churchill colt out of black-type performer Tiptree.

Consignors of Churchill’s progeny were also well-rewarded at the preceding Book 1 Sale, where his yearlings achieved an average price of 176,000gns. The fourth lot into the ring set the tone when selling to Blandford Bloodstock for 300,000gns. Offered by breeder Kildaragh Stud, the colt is a full-brother to Tuscan (Churchill), who reached an official rating of 105.

Shadwell Estate Company matched the price of 300,000gns for Mountain View Stud’s pinhooked Churchill filly. Culworth Grounds Farm also enjoyed a profitable pinhook when selling their Churchill filly to Alex Elliott and JS Bloodstock for 130,000gns. Churchill’s quartet of six-figure yearlings was completed by Richard Ryan’s 100,000gns purchase from the Castlebridge Consignment.
